1. Overview World Adventures, a 12-month subscription line for ages 6+ that features adventures around the world, is a revamp of the pre-existing World Editions by Little Passports. The team took all the aspects that the Little Passports audience loved about the original World Edition, added what we’ve learned through play-testing, surveys, and reviews, and redesigned it for the children of today.

I was responsible for art direction, graphic design, and management of illustrators.
2. Art Direction & ConceptThis sub-line is the first to feature a complete refresh in the Little Passports product offerings. I began developing the creative direction of this sub-line with a variety of mood boards that spanned from conservative refreshes to a complete reimagining of the sub-line.

The team wanted the product line to feel fun, fresh, and bold while prioritizing cultural accuracy and sensitivity. The imagery and styles depicted are as faithful as possible to each country that the child “visits” throughout the sub-line. To this end, I prioritized finding and commissioning illustrators who have lived in—or currently live in—each country.
3. Activity Sheets to Travel JournalThe original World Editions’ Activity Sheets are double-sided, accordian-style pamphlets with a total of 8 pages that feature pen-to-paper activites, 1 DIY activity, and 1 recipe.

The team felt that the Activity Sheets were not enough to showcase and educate the reader about each culture. We expanded this component to become 22+ page booklets filled with fun facts, pen-to-paper activities, 1-2 stickering activities, 2 sticker sheets, 1 lift-the-flap map, 1 DIY activity, and 1 recipe from the featured country.
4. Travel Journal CoversThe travel journal covers were some of my favorite pieces to figure out throughout this project. My goal was to reimagine them to be more impactful, eye-catching, and exciting than the original Activity Sheet designs.

Something I wanted to keep from the original Activity Sheets was the consistency across each month’s covers. I landed on an arched window motif to evoke the sense of looking through a window or doorway into another country or location. It also allowed the illustrators to play and interact with it using lighting, perspective, or whatever else they felt was most successful with their personal illustration styles.
5. Travel Journal Interiors & Stickers The interiors of each travel journal vary widely in the pen-to-paper activities, paper engineering features (like pull tabs and spinners or dials), and overall specs and requirements featured.

This new format opened up novel possibilities for the Sticker Sheets. Playtesters expressed that they weren’t entirely sure what to do with the original sticker sheet, so we took that feedback and used it as an opportunity to give the new sticker sheets more purpose.
6. Challenges and Takeaways Working alongside and collaborating with many stakeholders while keeping everything visually cohesive was definitely challenging at first with all of the individual moving parts. However, that experience itself was enjoyable and taught me many valuable skills that I am eager to implement for all future projects.
